She is both spiral and Cosmic Tree.  The tree is symbolic of the source of life and the spiral signifies its repetitive rhythm.
Turtle Mother
Global creation mythology frequently mentions that the first appearance of consciousness of humanity coincides with the vertical rising of a serpent and a Tree of Life from a spiral well, cave or maze in the northern skies.
Turtle Mother, image of all creation, swims in a primal cosmic sea. At the stillpoint center of her shell is
a spiraled serpent and on her back the
Tree of Life continues the spiral dance.
Axis of Consciousness
A mandala in motion is a spiral and a double spiral in motion has two poles at opposite ends of a central axis, the central infinity.  The spiral returns to itself along this axis.  In this way, the One looks at itself ,and is both subject and object.  I am (subject) that I am (object).

The spiral is the preferred direction in the universe. Galaxies, electric currents and life forms, from plants to DNA, all spiral.  My art expresses visually the spiral nature of an electric universe as a mythologically based metaphor.  I portray where the universe's energy meets and wraps around our planet's energy as an axis mundi at the polar cusp.
